The Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Specialist will be responsible for developing and assessing the impact of the Conservation Programmes’ global conservation efforts in line with WWF-Belgium’s overarching strategy.

The role will include leading a coordinated approach for MEL components for our ongoing DGD Programme and conservation programmes (in Cambodia, DRC, Ecuador, Zambia, Belgium etc.) in order to leverage effectiveness and impact.  Particular attention will be given to learning for informing Management about needs for adaptive measures.  

The MEL Specialist will provide mentoring and training assistance/services not only to Conservation (International & National) Programmes staff, but to third party data collectors as well (WWF Network, local staff and partners).

 

Deep dive into the role:

  1. Lead on consistent, robust, fit for purpose and systematic Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) components for Conservation Programmes and against our Strategy. (0.7FTE)
  • In close communication with Programme Managers and by relying on qualitative and quantitative data, define and report against measurable indicators of outputs, outcomes, and impact but also project performance indicators.
  • Ensure all MEL components are compliant with donor and reporting requirements.
  • Working together with Programme Managers, deliver programme evaluations which are to include recommendations for improving efficiency and impact.
  • Draw from and input to the WWF Network’s M&E work
  • Lead on the roll out of WWF Belgium’s Evaluation Policy
  1. Lead on the development, strengthening and implementation of the M&E framework (system and tools), including the addition of a learning component. (0.2 FTE)
  • In close communication with Programme Managers, oversee the delivery of project/programme baselines, evaluations, reviews, learning briefs.
  • By relying on solid MEL components, support our efforts in developing programmes’ sustainability plans and exit strategies.
  1. Support key partners in MEL components as part of our strategy and organizational development efforts. (0.1 FTE)

 

Who will you collaborate with:

  • In a team of 13, you will directly report to the International Programmes Director, and work closely with Conservation Programme Managers and WWF local teams and partners.

 

This is a good match for you if:

  • You have a Master degree in a relevant field is required; and/or specialized training/certification in monitoring & evaluation.
  • You have minimum 5 years relevant experience including MEL in conservation, international development, natural resources management, humanitarian aid, etc.
  • You have demonstrated expertise in indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing MEL and performance monitoring plans and tools.
  • You have excellent Project & Data Management skills. You are highly organized and attentive to details. Theory of Change and Project Cycle Management have no secrets for you.
  • You are familiar with DGD processes and/ or other international development rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • You have an excellent oral and written command of English (Dutch, French and Spanish are a plus)
  • You have a proven track of systematic & strategic thinking. You also are solution and result-oriented.
  • You are team-oriented and diplomatic. You are ready to support and mentor your colleagues.
  • You are comfortable working in a international and fast-paced work environment, (cultural and contextual understanding and sensitivity, occasional meetings to accommodate differing time zones)
